Definition

A Database (DB) is a collection of information organised in such a way that a computer program can quickly select specific pieces of data. The information is organised by fields (single piece of information), record (complete set of fields), and files (collection of records). A Database Management System (DBMS) is necessary in order to access information from a database, enabling the manager to enter, organize and select data within the database.
